BULAWAYO – Supporters of Highlanders Football Club are threatening to boycott the team’s next Premier Soccer League match in protest over the quality of match officials.
The fans claim that recent refereeing decisions have unfairly affected their team’s performance, sparking widespread frustration.
“We cannot continue to watch our team being unfairly treated by substandard referees,” said Highlanders supporter, Mthulisi Tshabangu.
The boycott threat comes ahead of Highlanders’ tricky home match against ZPC Kariba at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday,.
Highlanders’ management has acknowledged the fans’ concerns, urging the Premier Soccer League to address the issue.
“The referees’ performances have been below par, and we need urgent action. Our fans are justified in going this route and while we are sure to lose revenue, we understand where they are coming from,” said a Highlanders’ executive member.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has yet to comment on the matter.
